(Santiago de Compostela, Spain) Galicia, the lush, green, Northwestern coastal region of Spain, may not be very well-known to Americans traveling abroad. However, for the Spanish and many other European travelers, Galicia and its capital, Santiago de Compsotela, are a must-see. In this beautiful city you will find Hotel Compostela, a hotel just as beautiful as the city in which it resides. This four-star hotel is located in the perfect location for visitors, just a three- to four-minute walk from the cathedral and city center, and yards away from various bus stops with services to and from the central bus station, train station and airport. Hotel Compostela offers various rooms ranging in size from singles to suites, and also offers meeting room accommodations for fifteen to one hundred eighty people. All of the guestrooms are furnished with dark red and brown modern-style furniture, giving the entire hotel an earthy yet sophisticated vibe. Each room also features standard amenities, beautiful bathroom facilities, and excellent Wi-Fi, a crucial service that may be tough for travellers to find in many Spanish or European hotels.
I was incredibly impressed by Hotel Compostela, in particular its staff and customer service. The staff at the front desk was incredibly helpful with everything from recommending restaurants and giving directions, to describing local rituals, such as “el conjuro,” and telling me mass times to see the world famous botefumiero in action at the cathedral. They were also kind enough to make me a breakfast bag to go when I had an early flight to make, and even mailed me a shirt I had left behind at no charge. It is the little things like this that always stick out to me and make me want to return! Most people visiting Santiago de Compostela are there to see the incredible Cathedral of Santiago and all of the pilgrims who travel across France and Spain to get there. Both are truly a sight to see, and the diverse Gallego culture, its seafood and music in particular, is one that everyone visiting Spain should experience. Aside from the cathedral, there are a ton of things to do in Santiago de Compostela, and returning to a room in Hotel Compostela is the perfect way for a traveler to end his or her day.-Nick FerreiroHotel Compostela
